Celebrating the life of

Frances Hursey Cupstid

April 14, 1933 - April 18, 2015

Frances Hursey Cupstid

Frances Christeen Hursey Cupstid, beloved wife, cherished mother, and adored grandmom and great-grandmom, passed away on April 18th. Having grown up in Savannah, Frances graduated from Commercial High School in 1951. To her family and friends, Frances was known as an incredibly supportive, selfless, and adventurous woman who never shied away from a challenge. She would have made a great Rockette: she began dancing at the age of 5 and never looked back, even entertaining at Savannah’s USO.

Frances married her high school sweetheart, Tommy (JT) Cupstid, in 1951, and started a family that would expand to include 2 daughters and 2 sons. She always supported her children and never missed an opportunity to help out, from dance class to football practice to creating home videos. She could outrun all of the neighborhood kids and never lost a 50-yard dash. You couldn’t keep Frances away from her family’s sports games and could find her cheering on the team in rain or shine. She also supported her husband Tommy through years of softball tournaments and was the backbone of this smart, fun-loving, and athletic family.

She loved to travel, whether it be for Tommy’s tournaments or a family vacation. Taking a 5-week vacation out west in a camper-van with her husband was one of her favorite memories. She also loved her time gambling with Tommy in Biloxi, celebrating their wins with a big plate of crab legs. She got jazzed up about Al Jolson and Neil Diamond and had a passion for helping animals (although lizards and frogs were not her favorite). On the weekends you could also find her playing cards, notably hand and foot, with her family and single-handedly completing even the hardest NYTimes crossword puzzles.

Frances is survived by her husband of 64 years, Tommy (JT), and children Chris (Gary), Larry, Tommy (Ann) and Laurie (Joe). She also leaves behind 9 doting grandchildren: Brian (Suzy), Craig (Susan), Daven (Kaye), Katie (Aaron), Lauren, Emily, Bobby, Will, and Ben; and great-grandchildren Jonathan, Jackson, Eugene, and Junah. She will be missed very much.

Donations should be made to the Humane Society of Greater Savannah in lieu of flowers.

Wonderful Tribute with very special memories, just hang on to them in the days to come, I know Mrs. Frances would want you to keep making them ! I met her once and she seemed like a very nice person, but I did not know she was involved in all these things. It looked like she had a wonderful life and enjoyed every minute of it, I know she would want you to follow in her footsteps and carry on and is watching down from Heaven, with Love for you all ! Sending Love and Prayers! God Bless!

Tommy, Laurie, and entire family, I am sorry for your loss; but know that Frances is now in Heaven. She was always kind, gracious, and it was always delightful to share time with her. Many great memories of Frances flood my mind. After my move to Florida to be near Craig, Jacqui, and Harper (grandson), I have had spare time to remember friends. Therefore, you have all been thought of often. All of you are in my prayers. May God hold each of you close and give you comfort both now and through the coming years.
